SRS JLPT Flashcards Without the Complexity

And, we're back. Today we've released an updated version of the main KanjiTastic site and the iPhone version. The long wait on your side and the struggle on my end have been worth it. There's a ton of bug fixes and new features, but the two big ones are a brand spanking new Spaced Repetition Set (SRS) tracking interface and full support for IE 8, IE 7 and Google Chrome.

Spaced Repetition Set stacked bar chart tracking example

Up until now the site has presented you with a list of the sets that you need to study on any given day, but it has been your responsibility to study the appropriate sets each day. You had to study set 1 then set 2 then set 3, etc., all on your own. Today that complexity is gone. From now on all you have to do is tell the site that you want to study the cards (not sets) that need to be studied today. The site will automatically figure out which cards need are due today regardless of their SRS buckets. Even better than that, the site now presents you with a chart of your SRS progress along with links to each bucket, or the cards that are due today.

After you've studied some cards, just return to your page and you'll be given an easy to understand stacked bar chart that breaks down your SRS progress along. If you create an account we'll even keep track of your SRS progress for more than 30 days.

The second major change on the site is the addition of full support for IE8, IE7 and Google Chrome. We've always supported Firefox, Safari and even Opera, but IE8, IE7 and Google Chrome support have been a bit of a problem. You could even say that the site was broken for them. Now that is fixed. Buttons should be where they are supposed to be and the cards should be properly tracked. The site will look and behave best in Safari, or Firefox, but if you must then please use whatever browser you like best.

And no, we're not even close to finished with this site. Soon we'll be giving you:

  • All the JLPT 1 Kanji plus Vocabulary
  • A better navigation system
  • Your own cards
  • Your own sets
  • More and better quizzes

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon!
