List of 500+ Look-Alike Kanji

From the very start KanjiTastic has given you a quick way to retrieve kanji that look similar to the one that you are studying. All you have to do is click on the "Related Cards" link at the top of the card then select Similar Kanji.

That's all well and good, but not all kanji have a look-alike kanji connected with them yet. To make it easier to find look-alike kanji you now have access to our list of similar kanji.

Create Your Own Flashcard Set

Just a quick note to point out that now you can create your own set for Kanji flashcards and Japanese vocabulary flashcards here on KanjiTastic.

When you find a cards that you want to add to your set just drag it down and drop it on the "My Set" dropbox. You can remove cards from your set after clicking on the "edit" link.

Japanese English Dictionary

Today we've got another new feature for you: an advanced Japanese English dictionary.

Watch the screencast below for more details, but the long and the short of it is that the KanjiTastic Japanese English dictionary allows you to search by Japanese and English at the same time; search by hiragana or katakana; and use wildcards to expand your searches.

SRS JLPT Flashcards Without the Complexity

And, we're back. Today we've released an updated version of the main KanjiTastic site and the iPhone version. The long wait on your side and the struggle on my end have been worth it. There's a ton of bug fixes and new features, but the two big ones are a brand spanking new Spaced Repetition Set (SRS) tracking interface and full support for IE 8, IE 7 and Google Chrome.

Using Spaced Repetition to Learn More Japanese Faster

Today we're releasing a very important feature to help you blast through all the kanji and vocabulary you need for the JLPT or just every day life in Japan. 

I, to be honest, love flash cards. I think they are a great tool for memorizing kanji, or vocabulary. I usually start out with all of my cards in one enormous pile then separate them into smaller piles that seem to be memorizable in one day each. Then I go to work one pile at a time; one card at a time. Every couple of days I go back and review all the piles I've seen so far. It's this last part that isn't so very wise.

As the days turn into weeks, that review pile becomes ginormous. Reviewing ALL the cards every few days quickly drains me of my will. There comes a day when I decide to take a break and suddenly it's weeks later and the cards are gathering dust along with my motivation. The funny thing is that a large percentage of the cards in the review pile don't really need to be reviewed. I've already memorized them, but separating them from the smaller percentage of cards that I don't know so well and DO need to review is a chore. Read more...

More than 20,000 Free Japanese Vocabulary Flashcards

Wow, what a morning!

Last night's hard work paid off because after my morning coffee I did a bit of fiddling and imported more than 11,000 new Japanese vocabulary flashcards into KanjiTastic. That brings our total up to more than 20,000 vocabulary flashcards.

Add those to our more than 2,700 kanji flashcards and I think you've got a pretty darn good tool to get you on your way to Japanese fluency. Not to mention that it is freaking free!
