Finding One Kanji out of Thousands

Finding specific kanji or vocabulary cards in the system is a cinch.
The basics:
- Separate kanji or vocabulary with spaces and/or commas.
- Searches in the kanji module are handled slightly differently from searches in the vocabulary module.
Kanji Searches
When searching for kanji just type, or paste the a phrase or individual kanji into the search field. The system will search the database for each unique kanji you specify. They don't need to be separated by spaces or commas, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and put commas in between each one.
The system pulls each unique kanji out of your search query and ignores anything that is not kanji, e.g., numbers and alphabetical characters. You can, therefore, quickly create a deck of cards for the most interesting article you've read in today's newspaper.
Vocabulary Searches

Searches in the vocabulary module are handled a little differently.
Individual kanji must be separated by either a space ( ), or a comma (,). Any kanji that are not properly separated will be considered a complete vocabulary phrase. So if you search for 出席 the system will look for a 出席 vocabulary card and not 出 and 席 vocabulary cards.
When you search for individual kanji the system returns any vocabulary cards that contain the kanji you specified. So a search for 欠,席 will return — among other things — 欠席, 欠陥, 欠ける, 欠席する, 空席, etc.,.
The Main Points
- When searching in the vocabulary module, searches for compounds are considered to be requests for specific vocabulary cards while searches for individual kanji are considered to be requests for vocabulary cards that contain that kanji.
- When searching in the kanji module you can search for individual kanji or just copy and paste a block of text into the search field. All search requests in the kanji module are considered to be requests for specific kanji cards.
